On October 5, 2015, 80 years after a memorial to contain the bones of the great leader of the Shawnee and of a large tribal confederacy was begun, the statue of Tecumseh, created by the sculptor Georgina Toulouse Bebamikawe, was raised onto the stone cairn, unveiled, and dedicated on Walpole Island.

War Memorial—Dedicated to “Warriors Killed in Action,” the memorial lists Walpole Island First Nation casualties from the American Civil War, World War I, and World War II.

Walpole Island Cemetery—Formerly known as High Banks (also Highbanks) Cemetery, this is the final resting place of members of island families, including the Aquash, Blackbird, Kicknosway, Nahdee, Sands, and Soney families, among others. There is a grave of someone born in 1825, another of someone who died in 1907.

Stone Cairn Monument to Tecumseh—The question remains as to whether Walpole Island is the final resting place of Shawnee chief Tecumseh, the nineteenth-century leader who formed a large First Nation confederacy and allied his warriors with the British during the War of 1812. Tecumseh helped capture Fort Detroit, but he died on the battlefield in 1813.

Statue of Tecumseh—By Ontario sculptor Georgina Toulouse Bebamikawe, this statue at the intersection of Tecumseh Highway and River Road was unveiled atop the stone cairn on October 5, 2015.
